Happy Banned Book Week!
Well, the don’t technically “ban” books anymore, now uptight parents just created a list of “challenged books.” In our culture where it is considered an accomplishment for a kid to read over 160 characters at a time, it amazes me that there are still people who feel the need for censorship.
Here are some of the books that made the list this year:
The Giver
Song of Solomon
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Prince of Tides
Of Mice and Men
My Brother Sam is Dead (this one is a piece of work. Most boring thing ever. I’d hate to deprive the children of the joy I had to endure while wading my way through this one)
A Lesson Before Dying.
A lot of these books were my favoirites in Jr. High and High School, and a lot of them I still want to read. So follow my lead and go enjoy the autumn air with a good book-just make sure to mind the f-words.
